Zolpidem is the drug. Ambien is the brand, and it’s the sleeping pill most people can name.

It’s a Z-drug, which means it works on the same GABA receptor that benzodiazepines do, but binds more selectively to the part tied to sedation. It works fast and doesn’t last long, which suits trouble falling asleep.
